Avoid mistakes by learning from authors who have already been down the road of self-publishing their books. Book Designer Andrea Schmidt shares amazing stories of self-published books (nonfiction) in the show Story of a Book.

How much do we appreciate the right to be counted? Absorb some of the incredible wisdom of Tiffany Norwood, successful tech entrepreneur and author of Vote Like a Boss.

It was my pleasure to meet and talk with Tiffany Norwood about the story of her first book: Vote Like a Boss. Stay tuned for the second edition!

"Heavily biased toward action," Tiffany is a multi-talented author and tech entrepreneur who reminds us beautifully how powerful the act of voting truly is.

“For the second [edition of the] book, I’m going to reach out to Oprah’s publisher because she had written about this man who went through all these shenanigans to try and vote. Walking miles and miles and miles… Going to polling place after polling place. He literally spent the whole entire day trying to be able to vote, and he didn’t get a chance to vote that time. That was right before the Voting Rights Act to get rid of those shenanigans. Then, before the next election came up, he had passed away…”

We’re not waiting for everything to be perfect… That’s really powerful for anyone working through the self-publishing process. The idea that we have to have it perfect before we can move forward can be paralyzing.

“I am a lifelong entrepreneur and I’ve done a number of startups. And so, I have a bias towards action. Even when there’s fear, anxiety and panic. That’s the only thing that makes me different from everyone else is that I execute and bring things to market… We all have great ideas. That is a god-given birthright. The difference as an entrepreneur is that we are applied dreamers versus theoretical dreamers.”

At the end of our chat, Tiffany brilliantly suggests I create a master checklist for self-publishers. Great idea Tiffany, thank you! It’s on my “to-do” list!
